hi all,

in book marks,we have options for source type as data item value, data item label, report expression..in that when do we use source type as data item label??can any one explain me with an example..

Bookmarks allow you to jump from one part of the report to another. The source types give you different options to populate the bookmark. Text lets you explicitly define the value, data source will be based on a query (remember it needs to be nested in a query object), while report expression will let you combine data items with static text or report functions.

I'll give you two examples.

In the first example. It's a single long HTML page. A top row contains a repeater with each factory - each factory is a link to the bookmarks below. The factory row will stay at the top of the page at all times. Underneath is a long list grouped by factory. Each group takes the entire height of the screen, so bookmarks are essential. At the top of the page is a bookmark with a static value of "Top". In each group of factory there are two bookmarks - the code of the factory and the group number (both data items).

The code of the factory feeds the bookmark which is referenced by the row at the top (drillthrough is based on data items). There are next and previous links based on the group number (report expression of Group Number + or - 1)

In my other example I had to create a PDF booklet. It was written in 8.2 so there wasn't any Table of Contents functionality. The booklet contains a number of nested page sets, Factory --> Group --> Machine. In total there are about 400 pages. The factory page set contains a bookmark with the source type set to data item, factory code. The group and machine sets have the bookmark source type set to report expression designed to give each combination a unique ID.

At the top of the booklet is a list creating a table of contents. Each row is a link to one of the pages in the book.

If you're using 8.4 you may also be interested in using the Table of Contents object.
