Hi Guys i am trying to build cube from package that i have built previously with Framework manager. The problem is that when ever i try to preview of data in "Data Source Viewer " the transformer is not responding.can you guys tell me What is the problem?

Are you new to cognos transformer.

If you build the cube wait for some time (some 5 to 10 mins. Sometimes its 20 mins also), but don't close it and bother about that.It will run. First time it will show the not responding and white screen only. After some time it will show the categories and the records by changing the number.

If its shows as not responding means its running.

If its not showing any records for long time just close that one and re build the cube again.

The above answer is completely different than the question !!

Since you are using a package generated by FM, it might have the joins in place. That means Transformer might take some time before the data shows up in the Data Source Viewer. Also, if you don't see any data, try to check if there are any filters in FM.

I never use a package for making cubes because it attracts joins unneccecarily and thereby slows down the cube build. Also, it is against the best practices to use a 'combined' data source in the form of a package. It is best to use seperate data sources (Ex: IQD's) for dimensions and facts in Transformer. That way, you also have more control over the designing of the model and the performance. You also won't be dependant on the FM Package. If somebody changes something in the package and re-publishes it, your cube model could be affected.

Are you using Oracle as your data source? Some specific versions of the Oracle client and Transformer show this behaviour. I think its something like 10G and Transformer 8.1. There is a knowledge base article on it.
