Hello everyone,

So far the vast bulk of my cognos experience has been with DecisionStream 7. Finally we have access to Datamanager 10.2. Fortunately we're not migrating anything yet, this is a brand spankin' new project.

I was wondering if there are any critical tips or best practices people have for using DM 10.2?

Thanks,

MFGF

There are a few small changes in Data Manager 10 from DecisionStream 7, but the fundamental architecture and UI is the same. DS7 had the ability to group builds into folders and I think the Navigate option had been added by then, too. One new piece you will find is the Metadata Export options have changed. DS7 allowed you to publish to Cognos 7 PowerPlay etc from the delivery module of a Fact Build. All of this disappeared in Data Manager 8, and was replaced by a new Metadata object in the content tree. You now define all builds to deliver only the data, and then define your metadata export to C10 BI at the end. To make this work, you will need to reference lookups/hierarchies in your Fact Builds that link back to the dimension tables and retrieve the dimension data via template access. This was best practice in DS7, though, so it's not a new requirement. There are obviously some new source and target options in Data Manager 10, including integration with BI data sources and packages to retrieve data, and the ability to read/write TM1 data.

Enjoy!!

Thanks!  :D

We've already found a couple of nice things. Timestamps no longer lose their milliseconds when going through a fact build!

A few of our systems use timestamps as ids and so we always had to save the milliseconds in a separate field.

I'm skeptical about whether or not we were really following DS7 best practices so I'll have to look into that meta data deal.

Do happen to know if it's possible to export to ixf or to do a DB2 load as ixf? So far I haven't found anything in the options that would imply that but I'm hoping there is a way.

Nope - still the same answer as before. There's not way to export ixf  to the DB2 bulk loader as far as I'm aware - just text files.

Cheers!
