Bypassing the Browser Excel Version

Hello

Has anybody else found that users aren't overly keen on the default rendering of Excel outputs inside a browser window? I have. Users tend to copy and paste the output into the main Excel program immediately and wonder why this unnecessary step is there. They probably think that I put it there to ruin their lives.

I didn't, so I was wondering if anybody knows of a way to have Cognos Connection open Excel outputs into the Excel program itself and therefore bypass the browser rendering.

I'm pretty sure that this is wishful thinking but I am all ears.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

It's a windows setting but read the following method to solve it:

There is another method you can use to push out instead of being at the mercy of every user setting this up on their machine.

In Cognos Configuration, go into System on the Status tab, then drill down until you get to the list of services.  Under both ReportService and BatchReportService, select the dropdown arrow and select Set Properties.  Click on the Settings tab, then click Edit... next to Advanced Settings.  Add a new rule here with a name of RSVP.FILE.EXTENSION.XLS and set the value to true. Once you OK back out, you should see a new entry in the Settings pane showing the new rule.  Stop and restart the Cognos services.  If set correctly, all Excel output attachments will now be .xls file types instead of the default .mht file type.

bfmooz,

Incredible work - how on earth did you come up with that?! It's solved another big annoyance so you too have Golden God status.

Thanks very much
