But i am not able to start Analysis Studio....not able to published packages for Analysis

if i am not wrong, you need to have a package that is dimensionally modeled (Regular/Measure Dimension)  or has a cube as a source.. to open it with Analysis Studio.
- and you need to specify a package before you open any studio....

ignore this post if you have package that satisfy one of the above

pooja

how can i get those......i mean the one we can get from sample data base...????
if so then ...is that from cognos 8 (webcontent--samples---sqlserver....GORT /GOSl)
  OR   OR

from 8.3 sample data base which comes separately.....please...??
would you please provide me a steps tooo

thank you
pooja.

this link should help you::

http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/c8bi/v8r4m0/index.jsp?topic=/com.ibm.swg.im.cognos.qrc_mm_inst.8.4.0.doc/qrc_mm_inst_id2859SettingUpSamples.html

1. restore the sample databases GORT/GOSL etc..
2. create connections for these databases
3. import sample packages -->
you should have Cognos_Samples.zip &/or Cognos_PowerCube.zip in location
...cognos\c8\webcontent\samples\content

packages GO Data Warehouse (analysis) / GO Sales (analysis) should open in Analysis studio.

the cube samples are .mdc files that are present in location:
../webcontent/samples/datasources/cubes/PowerCubes/En/*.mdc

OR

to open power cubes:

Steps for PowerCubes
Open IBM Cognos Connection by connecting to the IBM Cognos 8 portal and clicking IBM Cognos Content on the Welcome page.

In the upper-right corner, click Launch, IBM Cognos Administration.

On the Configuration tab, click Data Source Connections.

Click the new data source button.

Note: You must add a data source connection for each cube.

To create a data source connection for the Sales and Marketing cube, type sales_and_marketing in the Name box, and then click Next.

You can define a Windows path or a UNIX path.

If you define a UNIX path and you plan to use Framework Manager, you must also define the Windows path and ensure that the cube is also available in the Windows location. Framework Manager can access cubes only from Windows locations.

In the connection page, under Type click IBM Cognos PowerCube.

The connection string page for the selected database appears.

In the Read cache size (MB) box, type the cache size of the cube in megabytes.

If you leave this field blank or type 0, IBM Cognos Connection uses the default value in the ppds_cfg.xml file in the configuration folder.

In the Windows location box, type the location and name of the Sales_and_Marketing.mdc file for the data source connection. For example, type

c8_location/webcontent/samples/datasources/cubes/PowerCubes/En/Sales_and_Marketing.mdc

To test whether the parameters are correct, click Test.

you will be asked, do you want to publish cube as a package or something, say yes & finish.

you can now see package folder 'sales_and_marketing' in cognos connection, go into that folder and launch analysis studio.

hope this helps...

very first thing, do see Analysis Studio on welcome page or in Launch Menu in the cognos connection?

pooja

Analysis Studio window is coming.....but no Packages.....

sorry to bothering you again...

my question is......is it possible to use cognos 8 sample in cognos 8.3..????(if so please HOW..??)

I am still trying to go for Analysis service......but not able......

please co-operate.....

thank  you for your help....

uttam.mistry

i have not used cognos 8 samples with 8.3, but i believe it should work.

do you have Cognos_Samples.zip with you? (should be there in location ..cognos intall\webcontent\samples\content)
or do you have any .mdc i.e. cognos power cube sample file with you? (should be there in location ..cognos intall\webcontent\samples\datasources\cubes\PowerCubes\EN)

what are the (cognos sample) packages you can see currently in public folders in cognos connection (folder that are in blue)?

pooja

thank you again...here is the story

i have been using cog 8 where we get sample by default

from 8.3
-----------
Now i am planning to go for cog8.3 where we have to download samples separate..which I have (zipfiles\webcontent\samples\datasources\sqlserver\GOSALES & GOSALESDW)
Another is
(zipfiles\webcontent\samples\datasources\cubes\MSAS\MSAS_2005\EN\GOSALESDW.abf)

now my issue is ....want to use Analysis studio................on back-end SQL sever 2000
tell me please how......?????

thank you so much in advance

uttam.mistry

First step will be to create a connection for MSAS cube.

I think you will need Both Microsoft XML 6.0 Parser and Microsoft SQL 2005 Analysis Services 9.00 OLEDB Provider must be installed on the local client to establish data source connections to MSAS cubes... as mentioned in documentation:
(I am working on Cognos power cubes and not on MSAS)

also just to let you know that you can open Go Sales, Go Data Warehouse sample packages in Analysis Studio (I am on cognos 8.3), if you are not able to open them, there could some another problem.

you should be able to see something (if you can see in cognos connection) on "List of all packages:" when you launch the Analysis Studio. The packages that you can open with AS will be named in Blue color with uderline.

hope this helps
