Hello,
Does anyone know about the compatibility between Cognos 8.3/8.4 (in general: 8.x) and Microsoft Internet Epxplorer 8? I can't find any information on the new IBM/Cognos website. And what I've heard from IE8, this new version leaves the old habits of IE6 behind and complies in a better way to web-standards. But does anyone have experience in using IE8 and Cognos8 of can anyone point me to a document from Cognos about this subject?

sincerely,
Ingmar

I cannot speak to current practices or policies, but historically Cognos does not go backwards for infrastructure support.  In other words, support for new releases of OSes, browsers, and databases will be in future releases of Cognos products, but never in releases currently available.  I would expect that the only document on this would be summarized as "no, but you are welcome to try on your own".

I can tell you this for sure....with 8.2, I can't get Report Studio to open.

My advice, stay away from IE8 until it has "Active" support from cognos.

We have a web-facing Cognos 8.4 portal (for demo's) that I can access from my home (personal) pc. I have IE8 installed there and the demo portal, including RS works perfectly. No issues.

Cross site scripting filter, or XSS filtering, in IE8 is particular nagging for getting into Report Studio.  Someone else had a similar post so I'll use the same response.

On the workstation go to Internet Options, then the Advanced Tab, there's a section called "Only allowed approved domains to use ActiveX without prompt", there's a check box for "Enable XSS filter".

If that doesn't work, add your Cognos site as a Trusted Site under the Security tab and assign the Security Level of the zone to Medium-Low or Low.  If you want to set a custom level, the 3 things I would change are:

  • Automatic prompting for file downloads- change from Disable to Enable
  • Allow Programmatic clipboard access- change from Prompt to Enable
  • Enable XSS filter- change from Enable to Disable
