Intermittent DB connection error: "QE-DEF-0285 The logon failed"

When testing the DB connection in Cognos Administration 8.4 I sometimes get the error msg "QE-DEF-0285 The logon failed" (see attached screenshot indicationg a problem connecting to the DB.. If I test again, it would say "Successful". All reports run fine, however, scheduled reports fail to run, giving same error msg..!!


This error happens with connections to two different DBs
I have Oracle 10G client connecting to Oracle 10G DB
Services are running under admin user (Not local Machine)
Same servers has Cognos 8.3 using same Oracle client and is running fine
Connecting from server to DB using SQL*Plus works fine

Any help is greatly apreciated.!!!

Is this a multi-server install? If so, it might be possible that the DB connection is failing through one of the dispatchers (and hence it is intermittent). If not, then you need to start looking towards the database end and see if there is some sort of limitation set there.
