is there a simple way to disable a cube so that it releases the MDC file.

I'm need to update a cube duriing the day but if users are on it then I can't because it's 'in use'.

In PES this was simple, it's not so easy now.
I've tried disabling the cube in Cognos Connection but this didn't do it.

From what I've read, even after you disable it, it will still be locked for a few minutes after.
In order to unlock it, you need to stop and start reportService and batchReportService. This will do the trick...but it will also terminate all reporting connections.

The other option I've seen is to use the connection swap utility. Basically, you have your production cube. You rebuild the cube separately, or update a copy of your production cube separately. Then you copy the finished cube into the production folder with a different name (possibly timestamped), and update the connection to the new cubename.

I haven't actually implemented this, but this is what I what I have read when researching. I have some examples somewhere of what the commands would look like if you're interested.

I have it. Works nice. on Support you can find c8CubeBuilder.

I have two folders for each cube A and B and new cube write to the one which is not in use and next change connection to new cube,

If any user have the cube opened can still work with old one, any new user will open new cube.

in this application ther is more possibilites, like waiting some time if the cube is loked.

In 8.4 the cube is no longer locked so it can be updated while users have reports opened :)
