PCCONN not working for multi file

We are using a batch script to build cubes and run PCCONN to do cube swap.

We have tried with

different folder structure      cubes\<current date>\staticnamecube.mdc
prefix to cube name            cubes\<current date>staticname.mdc
static cube and file name      cubes\staticname.mdc

With each strategy it took going into the datasource properties, clicking the pencil icon for connection, not changing the connection, exit.  Only then we would have a successful datasource test.

Without entering the datasource properties the test connection failed with

PCA-ERR-0101 An error occurred while trying to open the data source: "Cube_OWW_Hotel_Bookings_12022008.mdc ". The error code: "-3000172". 
or sometimes

PCA-ERR-0101 An error occurred while trying to open the data source: "Cube_OWW_Hotel_Bookings_12022008.mdc ". The error code: "-3000350".

I have tried several alternatives.

I have used PCCONN to start and stop the report and batch processes
I have used PCONN to disable and enable the data source

Any thoughts?

Trailing spaces in the bat file
