How to open a .MDL (v8) in Transformer v7?

The *.mdl files are not usually backwards-compatible from Cognos 8 to Cognos 7.  You can open c7 mdl files in c8 (to upgrade them) but it doesnt work the other way around.

If you've accidentally upgraded the mdl file to c8 i'd start looking for a backup of either the *.mdl or *.pyi file.

Failing that you may be able to take a copy of the *mdl file, open it in notepad, compare it to a C7 model to see where the differences are between versions and make a few changes, but you'd need to understand the MDL language.
