Access Member Properties within Cognos Analytics

In the planning analytics plugin for Excel, I have access to a property named "Type". Is there a way to retrieve this from cognos analytics? I tried using roleValue() as I've done successfully for various attributes, but this gave an error when attempting to access a property by name in the same way.
