Hello,

I was just wondering if someone would like to share their knowledge and experience in Server/Report performance tuning.

I have:
Intel® Xeon® Processor E5-2609 v3

·   6 cores

·   6 threads

and 64g RAM on the server which Cognos Analytics is installed on.

Shoud I apply this logic "2 report processes per core, with 2 low affinity each = 16 processes * 2 low affinity = 32 low affinity in total.", on the below settings?

Without tuning
Number of high affinity connections for the report service during non-peak period: 1 (Default)
Number of low affinity connections for the report service during non-peak period: 4 (Default)
Maximum number of processes for the report service during non-peak period: 2 (Default)

Number of high affinity connections for the batch report service during non-peak period: 1 (Default)
Number of low affinity connections for the batch report service during non-peak period: 2 (Default)
Maximum number of processes for the batch report service during non-peak period: 2 (Default)

With tuning
Number of high affinity connections for the report service during non-peak period: 1 (what do you guys suggest here?)
Number of low affinity connections for the report service during non-peak period: 4 (what do you guys suggest here?)
Maximum number of processes for the report service during non-peak period: (2*6) = 12

Number of high affinity connections for the batch report service during non-peak period: 1 (what do you guys suggest here?)
Number of low affinity connections for the batch report service during non-peak period: 2 (what do you guys suggest here?)
Maximum number of processes for the batch report service during non-peak period:  (2*6) = 12

Best regards,
Oscar

I don't see any problems with your logic,
I've set Maximum number of processes for non-peak periods to value of 8 on most systems I've worked on but I see no reason why 12 would be an issue.
As for high & low affinity connections, they are the same values I've used as well.

Hey Wazzo,
Thank you for your response!
So the high and low affinity connection doesn't have to be changed (default setting) ?

Best regards,
Oscar
