How does one remove access to an Impromptu 7.4 Environment?

I started my Cognos Career with 8.3, so I have absolutely no experience with Impromptu.  Our upgrade clients prefer to have access to the old version of Cognos in case they need to retrieve something from the environment.  With Cognos 10 and 8, we can just turn off the service to remove access and the client can restart the service if they need something off the old system.

The only idea I have so far is to uninstall Impromptu from all the user's machines and leave it installed on the system administrator's machine.  Does anyone have any other ideas?

Hi,

What you refer to an "Impromptu 7.4 Environment", can you be a bit more specific about what you mean? Is this users with Impromptu Administrator / Impromptu User installed locally on their desktop machines (let's call them Impromptu Client), or is it an instance of Impromptu Web Reports, or both?

With IWR (just as with C8/10/11) you can stop the IWR and Upfront services on the server, and web access is then no longer available.
With Impromptu Client, it's a different situation altogether, as it is installed independently on every user's machine. You'd need to force an uninstall, and then retain one or two machines that still have the software installed and that could be made available to users if necessary. The other "gotcha" is sometimes that users have catalogs and reports saved on their own local machines, and if they need continuing access to these you would have to figure out how to get them all onto a network drive that the remaining installs could see.

Cheers!
