Hi All,

Anybody done Report Migration from Hyperion to Cognos?

The client has set up Hyperion Reports (.SQR Files), they don't have Metadata Model for these reports.

Could you please let me have the steps how to accomplish it?

Thanks

Hi All,
We have a requirement to convert hyprion reports t cognos 11.
Can anyone please help me out with best possible solution.

Thanks in advance

I completed a project to convert about 1400 reports from Hyperion Interactive Reporting 11 to IBM Cognos BI 10.2.1 25 months ago.  Here's the process:

  • Develop the reports using Cognos Analytics Reporting.

Pretty simple, huh?

Did your users use IR Studio or IR Web Client?  In either case, there will be thousands of reports sitting on local hard drives or network shares that you will have no knowledge of.  I recommend developing all of the online reports (in Hyperion Reporting and Analysis) beginning with the most-used reports and ending when the users are satisfied with that set of reports.  After that is done, declare success.  Then start replacing the "private" reports one-at-a-time.

Moving users from IR to Cognos can be traumatic for them.  If you haven't already started, be sure you communicate early and often.  We communicated for about 18 months and converted reports over the course of about 10 months before actually completing the process.

I want to emphasize that it is not possible to overcommunicate this change.  Over the course of 18 months we sent more than 100 emails to broad groups of users keeping them abreast of our progress and reminding them of the migration schedule.  The emails were sent by our information manager and our CIO.  We also conducted over 70 classroom training sessions involving over 600 students.  Our data stewards also conducted classroom training.  We spoke about this with users and managers at all levels whenever we had the opportunity.

People were still surprised when we turned off the Hyperion Reporting and Analysis server.

Also, for anything complicated, get help from experienced Cognos report developers.  When we began creating reports in Cognos, decisions about the more complicated ones were made based on 15 years of experience with IR.  Those were not good decisions when working in Cognos.  It created a lot of rework later.

Thanks a lot for your inputs...:)
One more question our project is in initial stage, is there any possibility to take xml of hyperion reports and import the same in cognos..Only if it is possible for you to share could you please share one basic hyperion xml, so that we can try at our end to convert it into cognos 11?

I missed that you were using Hyperion SQR.  Looking at the documentation (https://docs.oracle.com/cd/E10530_01/doc/epm.931/pr_developer_vol2.pdf) leads me to believe that SQR is a programming language.  It's not XML.

It looks like you are in the same dilemma I was in:  You can burn more time investigating ways to convert reports, or you can start creating reports in Cognos.
