Cross tab not displaying a row

Hi -

I'm new, both to Cognos and to the forum, so my apologies if this is an obvious question. I've searched and haven't found an answer.

I'm using Cognos 10.2.2 and this report has a crosstab set up on Dimensional data.

We have been testing the addition of a new Series to the report by inserting the data into our Dev tables. The report pulls it in correctly everywhere, except I expect it to add a new row to this crosstab, and it doesn't appear there when I run the report. Interestingly, the crosstab node member immediately above it relies on the same query and pulls the new Series in without a problem. The generated SQL from the query itself produces the data as expected as well. I don't see any filters on the query that would block this Series from appearing on the report.

Could there an issue with the crosstab so that it will only produce a given number of rows? Could it be a known Cognos glitch? Aside from pointing at a different data item in the query, I can't find differences between the crosstab node member that is failing to bring in the new Series and the one above it which IS bringing in the new series!

Please forgive me if my question is NOOB-ish: working with crosstabs and dimensional data is obviously at the limit of my abilities right now.

Thanks for the help. I really appreciate it.

Hi,

Without seeing your report it's impossible to be certain, but my guess is the crosstab in question is using an explicit set of Series members.
When authoring objects from a dimensional source, you can bring in a Level from a hierarchy, and this means all members of the level will be displayed. When new members get added, these automatically appear, since they belong to the level.
Alternatively, you can define a specific set of members and use these - either by dragging in the members directly from the package tree, or by creating a calculated item which defines the members you want to include. In this case, only the selected members will ever be displayed - regardless of whether new members are added to the source.

If I were you' I'd be looking at what the node in question is based on in your query, and figure out if it is a specified set of members. If so, you can replace this with the level if that's appropriate.

Cheers!

MF.
