For learning, if your employer is not offering formal training, I'd suggest perusing the Report Studio User Guide, available in Report Studio as Help > Contents. It is actually pretty decent, and if you have the Cognos sample data available, you can play with the examples in the guide.

It's a very capable tool, but to bring out the best of its abilities will take a bit of study. At least, it did for me. :-)
