Report Studio not running

Hi everyone,

My first time on this community and I hope to learn a lot from here.

I'm having a problem specifically with Report Studio. All I try to run on Report Studio returns me a timeout message. It happens with new blank reports or even saved reports. Already tried to run from different client PC's (mine one and from two different colleagues and locally from the server) and all are facing same problem. Also tried from different browsers (I.E, Firefox).

Some other considerations:
- We can log into cognos without any problems.
- We can run Analysis Studio/Cognos Administration without any problems.

Anyone has a clue of what is happening?

Hi ! Welcome to the community !

Analysis Studio uses only cubes or a DMR package from Framework Manager whereas Report Studio also uses a relational package from
Framework Manager. Making a report from a relational package requires connecting to the database to get the data.

Though it is hard to conclude what exactly is causing the problem without looking into your environment but I can tell you how Cognos is designed to work
and what I have experienced. Cognos waits for the dispatcher to spawn a process to connect to the database and if it cannot spawn a process for any reason
or if the database is down then it will eventually time out as there is a time out limit . I have faced a situation when the same thing happened and it turned out that the DBAs were shutting down the database. Surprisingly, cognos did not give me an error but just kept running and timed out.

Hi,

I'm not quite clear on what specifically the issue is here. Are you saying you are unable to launch Report Studio, or are you saying you are unable to run reports (from Cognos Connection) that were previously authored using Report Studio?

If it's the former, have you checked whether there is a popup blocker getting in the way?

If the latter, is it just for reports built against a specific package? If Analysis Studio reports work, what happens if you use the same package in Report Studio and build a report - does this work?
