SQL Type in Framework manager

I currently have a QS  created from a SQL (DB: SQL Server) in Database layer which has joins between 7-8 tables and CASE statements in the SELECT clause. SQL Type is set as 'Native'. I am trying to add a REPLACE function to a column , but it throws error (though REPLACE works in SQL Server).

To test further I created a new QS with simple SELECT statemenet and REPLACE function in it. This works ! as SQL Type by default is 'Cognos'.

I get an error if I change the original QS to Cognos  :(

Please share your thoughts on this.

Of course there is only one error message in the whole of Cognos and SQL Server so it will be easy for anyone reading your post to know how to assist you.
</sarcasm>

A SQL-based query subject is obviously not the ideal approach for modelling, but be that as it may, you'll have a better change of assistance if you share what the error is that you are getting.

The reason I could not post the error message was we access Framework manager through Citrix portal  and in Citrix the application just shuts down abruptly in case of any error without letting us know the exact reason !! I know its really annoying
