I want to connect Cognos with cloudera Impala. Please provide the steps to configure.

Hi

Launch > IBM Cognos Administration
Go to the Configuration tab
Make sure Data Source Connections is selected on the left
Press the New Data Source button
Provide a name for the connection and press Next
In the Type dropdown, select JDBC as the connection type and press Next
In the JDBC Type dropdown on the next page, select Cloudera Impala
In the JDBC URL dialog enter your host, port and database name
In the Signons area at the bottom, select the Password checkbox, then enter your User ID and Password for Cloudera Impala
If desired, test the connection using the link at the bottom of the page
Press Finish

Cheers!

Hi MFGF/Raghu,

Thanks for replying..

I had a look at similar blog thread as well. But biggest challenge to find the right version of impala driver.
My cognos version is C10.2.1 FP4 . In below system requirement page  i see cognos 10.2.1.3 supports clodera impala  1.3.0. I am not sure what are all the version available in cloudera impala. I am not familiar on those  areas.

hi,

i went through the below linl to confirm which version supports cloudera impala

http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg27042339

according to you, your version is 10.2.1 FP4, so cloudera impala should be supported.

A while ago in one of my other posts i cleared my doubt related to cognos fix packs with MFGF "you will automatically get everything in the prior fix packs and interim fixes installed as part of FP5." so the features from FP3 should be added to FP4 as well.

Raghu,

Coudera impala supported and in JDBC "cloudera impala" datasource is listed means , i dont need to place  impala .jar files in \lib folders which is mentioned in usual JDBC connection section in Ibm material?

I need to simply provide the details as mentioned by MFGF in datasource connection ???

Generally you will need the relevant third-party jar files for any desired JDBC connection copied into your Cognos instance, yes. I can't see how the connection could work otherwise.

Hi,

In Cognos supported software link i see Impala 1.3.0 is supported for Cognos 10.2.1. But in Cloudera impala site, i see only jdbc driver for 2.5 version. So i got stuck to find the right version of  .jar files. Let me know if you have any idea.

From the quick searches I did on Google, it looks like a Cloudera engineer has posted up a how-to. There appears to be a link to a dropbox page for a JDBC driver. I haven't tried this or even been able to determine the authenticity so proceed with caution if you decide to follow the instructions on his page.

Good luck!

It seems i am moving forward.. by changing the driver class i am getting below error. In system > queryservice property I increased to till 8 GB. But same error. This error shows driver is working fine. Any idea???

XQE-ROL-0183 Insufficient memory. The current JVM maximum heap size of the QueryService is 1024MB and may need to be increased: Java heap space

Did you restart your Cognos service after making the changes?

Hi,

I did restart the service and server too. error frequently getting changed. Insuuficient memory , unable to logon and could not find driver class. I tried with single tier installation also. I suspect some bug. At some time, Type got changed automatically from coudera impala to Infosphere.  I got stuck again.

For IBM Cognos 10.2.1 FP3 thru 10.2.2 you must use the Hive JDBC driver and not the Cloudera Impala JDBC driver

As of IBM Cognos 10.2.1 FP4 the versions of Impala that you could use are 1.3, 1.4 and 2.0.

You would copy the set of JAR files that Cloudera state are required for the version of Impala you are using  <c10x>\webapps\p2pd\WEB-INF\lib

https://www.cloudera.com/content/cloudera/en/documentation/core/latest/topics/impala_jdbc.html

If you have questions about the Cloudera JDBC drivers contact Cloudera.
