How to create conditional block and Render Variable

anybody help step by step how to create create conditional block and Render Variable
i saw this below documnet  i am prepare same stype but when run my report it show both table and chart
please anybody help

Conditinal block step by step:
Sype by step:
1 create  list & chart ,chart query given query1(both query same name)
2.creating value prompt
3.prompt properties:static choice:List and Chart
4.I created conditional block
5.selecting conditinal block properties:block variable-->seleted new variable-->Report expression-->ParamDisplayValue('ConditonBlockParam')='List'
then
6.current block='yes'

now i run report i am selecting list display both list and char
if select chart also display both

After you have dragged your Conditional Block below the pie chart on your page, click on the Conditional Block to select it. In the Properties pane on the left, you will see a "Block Variable" property - this is the screen shot you see in the document you are following. Press the ellipsis (...) in the Block Variable property and you will be prompted to set up a new variable - which will be used to control what the block will display. It looks like the instructions need you set this up as a boolean variable and to give it a name of varDisplay.
