Hi,

I have installed Cognos 8.4.1 (32 bit) on Win 2003 Enterprise edition 64 bit OS.

Cognos content store is MS SQL Server 2005 (32 bit) and reporting database is Oracle 10g (not sure wether 32 or 64 bit).

Above setup works fine but suddenly architect came up with idea to use Oracle 11g (64 bit) for both Content Store & reporting database.

Hence, could someone please confirm whether Cognos 8.4.1 (32 bit) is compatible with Oracle 11g (64 bit) as Content Store & Reporting database?

Thanks in advance.
Regards,
S.G.D.

Yes it is, we have cognos 8.4.1 installed and have recently upgraded to Oracle 11g from 10g. Content store, Audit and reporting databases are all in Oracle 11g and no issues.

Thanks for reply. Do you have any document or reference link which shows detailed steps for achieving above query?

Hi,

I am getting below error when I try to create & test Cognos Content Store on Oracle 11g database.

QuoteContent Manager failed to connect to the content store.
The connection string is "jdbc:oracle:thin:@C8CNTSTR".

Though I have copied 'ojdbc5.jar' file to 'E:\cognos\c8_64\webapps\p2pd\WEB-INF\lib' location.

Please suggest.
Regards,
S.G.D.

To avoid above error followed below steps mentioned here http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/c8fpm/v8r4m0/index.jsp?topic=/com.ibm.swg.im.cognos.cp_inst_cr_winux.8.4.0.doc/cp_inst_cr_winux_id12987CognosBIServerNotAvailableWhenS.html but problem still persists.

QuoteIf you use an Oracle database, type the appropriate values for the Database server and port number and Service name properties.

If you use an advanced Oracle database, for the Database specifier property, type the Oracle Net8 keyword-value pair for the connection.

Here is an example:

(description=(address=(host=myhost)(protocol=tcp)(port=1521)(connect_data=(sid=(orcl)))))
.

Any thoughts?

It shows me below error now.  :-\

Quote[ ERROR ] The database connection failed.
[ ERROR ] Content Manager is unable to process your request because an unexpected event occurred in the content store database subsystem

Any help?

hi,
it is about your content schema does not have to write the tablespace,
you should give priv to unlimited on tablespace or some quated space on tablespace,
