Contributor 10.1.1 Quick Export hangs for some users

Hello,

we have Cognos Planning 10.1.1 running, and on our client side we have Windows 7 64-bits and Office 2007.
All settings are default relating to Cognos Contributor installation.
When a some users try to do a export most of the times the Contributor is 'hanging' on "Quick Export: Exporting" (with the green progress bar half way somewhere)
When taking a look at the running processes we notice that Excel.exe was already started but not visual.
When we kill the process excel.exe we get an error in Contributor (RPC Server unavailable) which is logical because we killed Excel.

The strange thing is that for most users the Quick Export is 9 out of 10 times failing or so.

We also tested the "Export to Excel". This export is 'only' failing 1 out of 5 times.

Question is how we can fix this. We already tried several things (disable virus scanner, change IE Zone security settings), bit still no succes.

Putting IE into Compatibility mode has worked for us in the past.
