Creating a Popup in Cognos

Hi
My requirement is as follows :

i have a report in which  there are 5 columns. now i need to add 3 more columns.. say a, b, c
column c has an update link - which on clicking should open up a popup showing a date prompt and a checkbox prompt.
once the user inputs the date and selects the checkbox the columns a and b should be populated with the date and the selected checkbox prompt.

At the same time after the date and the checkbox has been selected the data must also be written to the respective columns in the DB.

Attached is the sample report design.

Kindly let me know if i have to use a javascript to display the date prompt and the checkbox prompt in the popup or do i have to use a drill through.

One more thing to add : If i have to use Javascript, how do i go about it ?? sorry, i have never used javascripts in my reports

Can somebody plz help or at lest give an idea how to go about it... this is quite urgent
