Displaying member names when drilling through a cube

I have a report sourced by a cube with a geographical hierarchy of Country, Region, State, City. As I drill down through the levels in the cross tab associated with this hierarchy, I want to display above the cross tab the selected Country, Region and State.

So when the report opens, I do not want to see anything except the cross tab with countries USA and Canada with their respective totals. If I click on USA, the cross tab automatically drills down on USA and I want the text 'USA' to appear above the cross tab which now has totals for each region within the USA.

When I then click a region e.g. East, I want the drill down to occur and then see USA, East across the top of the cross tab.

A third drill down on state e.g. NY would show USA, East, NY maybe in three text boxes above the cross tab which now has a break down of NY state by city.

With relational data this is easy as I just use and display the parameters which are set on each drill down. How do I do this with a cube?

Thanks for this. I worked through the example and applied it to my report and the results were the same: It works fine on drill down but cannot drill up. When right clicking on Product (or wherever you happened to have drilled down to), the Drill Up option is grayed out. How do I get back up again? None of the 'Disable Drill Up For...' boxes are checked.

What I failed to indicate was that I am using Cognos 10.1 and not 10.1.1

This is relevant because it turns out that, according to this article:

http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg1PM41089

drill up does not work when the procedure detailed in the previous link is carried out. It is a bug in Cognos 10.1 which is fixed after installing the 10.1.1 service pack though any further suggestions would be welcomed.

Ah! You beat me to it! I know it worked in 8.4.1 and it works now in 10.2.1. I was going to ask what version you were on :)

If drilling up when using defined member sets is broken in your build I think you're going to have to upgrade. I don't know of any other way to get it to work.

Cheers!
