Ratio Calculation Bug in Workspace Advanced

When working with power cubes using workspace advanced we are running into the attached issue.

Adding two or more categories is displaying incorrect total for the ratio measure. It should divide instead of add for the ratio measure. We tried to create a separate calculation using the source measures but the results are still incorrect.

Can you share your thoughts on this?

Hi,

This probably sounds totally weird at first, but try swapping rows and columns.

Column calculations are done prior to row calculations by default, so your sum of Camping Equipment and Golf Equipment is being done after the percentages for each are calculated, and it is summing the percentages. If you swap rows and columns the sums will be done first, then the percentage will be based on the summed values.

In Report Studio you can set the Solve Order property on calculations to change the order of precedence, but this property isn't there in Cognos Workspace Advanced.

Cheers!

Not having the Solve Order Property in workspace advanced limits the power users capability to create such totals and get accurate ratios. Can someone from IBM on the forum look into this as an enhancement to workspace advanced? Thanks.

From past experience, I'd humbly suggest that internal IBM people carry far less weight when requesting enhancements than support-fee-paying customers :) My advice is to log the enhancement request under your IBM Customer Number to stand the best chance of success.

In the short term, a kludgy workaround is to get someone with Report Studio access to open the report and set the solve order. Once it is defined in the report spec it will remain there when you open/run the report in Workspace Advanced.

Good luck!!
