Hello Folks,

I am unable to connect to Netezza datasource from my Cognos Environment. I am using Cognos 10.2.1 and FP 1 applied on a 64 bit windows 2008 server.

I have also installed the Netezza odbc driver (version 6+ and installed both 32bit and 64 bit) and jdbc driver.

Interestingly I am able to configure and test the jdbc connection but unfortunately the odbc testing fails .

I have followed all the steps mentioned in the below given url:
http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/data/library/cognos/infrastructure/cognos_specific/page569.html

Surprisingly I am not able to see the Netezza ODBC type of data source in the Configuration. I am trying to configure it using the Netezza option which is the only available and my test fails every time with the following error:

I get the following error every time I test the datasource.

QE-DEF-0285 The logon failed.
QE-DEF-0325 The logon failed for the following reason:
RQP-DEF-0068 Unable to connect to at least one database during a multi-database attach to 1 database(s) in: testDataSourceConnection

Is DSN at server getting succeeded ?

Please check where you have created system DSN in 32-bit ODBC adminstrator or 64-bit administrator. Not sure but 32 bit should work fine ..whatever it may be just give a try vice-versa or with both.

Also I wanted to confirm when exactly you are getting this error...while using FM or while testing the DS connection normally from cognos connection.

If you have FM installed on some VM(any machine other than server where already DSN is created) and accessing this DS giving an issue then please try creating the DSN there also(on VM)..same DSN which you have created on server.
Thanks

Hi,

For ODBC you will need only the 32-bit driver. Have you definitely defined a connection to Netezza in the Windows 32-bit ODBC manager? If memory serves the default from within Administrative Tools is to take you into the 64 bit console.

You could try launching the 32-bit console it manually - navigate to Windows\SYSWOW64 and launch odbcad32.exe as an Administrative user. Do you see your Netezza connection in the System DSN tab there?

MF.

Ah - great advice! You posted as I was writing my reply :)

:) Thanks MF.

And after posting I was just trying to recall how to open 32 bit odbc administrator :). And got answer from your post :)
Thanks

Thanks for the replies folks, Yes I have defined everything required in the System DSN tab and when i do a test connection it succeeds however the ODBC fails. I tried testing the odbc connection from both FM (using the run metadata wizard and creating new data source) as well as the Cognos Connection (Cognos Administration> Configuration> Datasource.)

I am not using a VM, I am doing all this on a Windows 2008 R2 64 bit server.

I am surprised

As we said...did you check where you have created the DSN ?

In 32 bit odbc administrator or 64 bit odbc administrator
Thanks

Thanks guys, I was able to configure the ODBC Connection, It got resolved when i went to the C:\Windows\SysWOW64>odbcad32.exe,  :-[ However now I am unable to connect the data source when I use the query in the dynamic mode.

It gives me the error: BMT-MD-5079 Failed to execute metadata request. Please check if the JDBC driver exists.

I have installed the JDBC Driver for Netezza and copied the nzjdbc.jar in the  .\v5dataserver\lib, When i do a test connection in the Datasource wizard it shows as succeeded, however I am unable to see the objects due to the error. :(

Hello friends, I copied the nzjdbc.jar in the webapps\p2pd\WEB-INF\lib and restarted the cognos service and it is working fine now. Thanks for all your help  :)

sunosoft

Seems like jdbc driver is not being picked up.

Did you restart the cognos service after placing the  nzjdbc.jar file ? If not please try restarting the service.
Thanks
