You have to configure an Authentication Provider first (Active Directory or LDAP...etc), then you have to Disable Anonymous Access from Cognos Configuration to force users to enter a password.

Agree with Grim. For Details, you can see Chapter 10 in Cognos Installation and Configuration Guide.

Hi buddy

i read installation and configuration user guide , where there is mentioned about "TRANSFORMER","SERIES 7","COOKIES".

is it necessary to install transformer for fulfilling my desire. is it necessary to configure series 7. If so then where can i get transformer modeling tool from. or how to configure series 7. when i go for configuring series 7, where i need " cookies " which is not available in IBM COGNOS CONFIGURATION.

when i go through the user guide, it refers to anywhere else, and when i go to the referred user guide, again it refers to other user guide. i m totally out of patience,

I think its a big job for me, can you guys please suggest me and refer me to hit to nail.

Series 7 - Only if you had series 7 before and are migrating/upgrading to Cognos 8.
Transformer - Only if you plan to build cubes.

First things first. What authentication provider are you planning to use? You have a choice as detailed in the first link Grim sent - these are the supported security providers. Cognos 10 doesn't have its own inbuilt mechanism for creating users and passwords - it relies on these being managed externally, and simply interfaces with whatever supported provider this is set up in. Probably the most common ones in use are Microsoft Active Directory and LDAP. If it's just for your personal use then I'd probably suggest you install and configure a free LDAP provider such as OpenLDAP or ApacheDS. You will also need a front-end tool to manage it such as ApacheDirectoryStudio. Obviously these are all outside of the Cognos-specific skillsets many people on here have, so if you have questions or issues installing and configuring these yo umay not get your answers here. Once you have a security provider and some users set up in it, configuring Cognos to talk to it is usually fairly straightforward. The links Grim sent are a good place to see how to do this. If you have specific questions during the process than by all means ask.

You don't need Transformer for any of this or Cognos 7.

Sigh. This is not necessarily the most productive attitude when learning new and exciting things. Enjoy the experience and appreciate the help you get for free from the kind people on here :)
