External data usage in cognos cloud environment

Hi,

In cognos 10 Using Excel as external data, can we create report using the excel from our local machine or it has to be placed on the cloud environment.

If the file is static you can upload from your local machine.  If the file is constantly being updated, it must be placed on a shared locations with proper access set and when creating the External Data Source select the "Allow the server to automatically load the file" check box.

Hello - what are all the settings required to get the external data 'refreshed' automatically within the givin package.  All we have seen is that the package must be opened, the external data deleted, readded (repointed to) and then the package republished.  Would be great if any report using that package got the then-current data.  ???
