i would like my TOC page showing only the page name of each report page,
like this:

Gender..............................................    1
Ethnicity ...........................................    3
Citizenship.........................................  10

my report contains 10+ pages(gender, ethnicity, citizenship etc......).  since i set up the page break in each report page by the value of gender, ethnicity, citizenship.... , so, the report "page by" male, female, African American, Asian, Caucasion....... much easier to read.  BUT the TOC page shows each individual print page  :'(

Gender..............................................    1
Gender..............................................    2
Ethnicity ...........................................    3
Ethnicity ...........................................    4
Ethnicity ...........................................    5
Ethnicity ...........................................    6
Ethnicity ...........................................    7
Ethnicity ...........................................    8
Ethnicity ...........................................    9
Citizenship.........................................  10
Citizenship.........................................  11

not the 1st page of each report page, like the one i listed at beginning.

apparently, the page break that i set up in each report page caused the problem.
How to fix it?

Hi Jenny,

You can do try this to acheive your requirement,

Create a TOC page, then add place holder pages name them Gender Section, Ethnicity Section, Citizenship Section place them between the defined page brks.  After which you should add the TOC entry to the newly created place holder pages and remove your old TOC entries so they are not mapped in the TOC page. I hope this makes sense, please let know if you have any questions.

Thanks,
RK

thanks RK for your reply.

i did create place holder pages, and set up them in the TOC. the problem is that those blank pages appear in my report output, which i don't want to have those extra pages in the lengthy report.
i also tried to setup the page in the  properties--->classes to {} (don't print), then i got a Cognos error page:RSV-SRV-0040 :'(

Hi Jenny,

Yes, I know there will be the blank pages but, there is no way around wt you are trying to do since u have page break set up on a section of gender, so on... and if you create a TOC entry on those page all the pages will show up since its takes the each page that it breaks on as a unique page.

The place holders should not effect the length nor the size of the output file greatly but, they will remain extra blank pages. Only other way of getting your desired output would be to remove the page breaks and define the number of rows of your sections page example if gender crosstab/list item on the page has 20 rows give value of 20 rows and it will break the next section on another page but if you have other elements like a graph or text items this solution would not work.

Thanks,
RK

i cann't use ' define the number of rows of your sections page ' because, i have no idea how many rows will be in each defined section.
example: in the Ethnicity page,  American Indian category usually only have a coulple of rows, but, i still wanted to print one page for American Indian independently.

since the report output is quite lengthy, users use the TOC page to navigate between sections.
(we setup as PDF format)

JennyW,
How did you solve this? I have exactly the same problem in one of my PDF reports. Appreciate it if you can share.

Thanks.
