Break data item on delimiter

Hey folks

Can anyone help me with this?  I've got a data item I'm using in a report.  This holds any number of error codes for a record which are separated by ||.  I'd like to break the data item into separate records delimited by the || Anyone have any idea if that's possible and how to do it?
