Optional prompts not optional?

I have a report with 2 prompt pages - The first page has one required prompt, and the second on has 6 optional prompts.

If I run the report, make a required selection, and then click finish, I get an error (see below).

If I run the report, make a required selection, and then click next, and then click finish (without making any optional selections), it works.

If I run the report, make a required selection, and then click next, and then click back, and then click finish (without making any optional selections), it works.

And, if I run the report, and make required and optional selections, it works.

Any ideas why it is not working if I just click finish?

The optional prompts are 2 multi select lists, 2 date prompts, and 2 text boxes.

ugh.. Figured it out.. It was because I had defaults on the two date prompts.
