1. Environments
Cognos 10, WAS, HTTP

2. When executing a report in Cognos 10 after server restart, the report takes 5 seconds to get the result which is fast. However after around 10 minutes then Cognos gets slower and then some reports got hung. The user waited for around 15minutes and try to run the reports again and it becomes fast but only for around 10 minutes. Then Cognos get slower again for 10 minutes and again they try to run reports after 10 minutes and Cognos become fast again. When they got hung, cognos log file said out of memory error.

This seems to be there is a cache or buffer or memory that has insufficient size but we are not sure which one?

Appreciate if ones can give some ideas.

Hey Andy,

Depending on your install; if its single server or distributed server (Note: Only on Content Manager Tier) please open up Cognos Configuartion.

Under Environment – Group Properties see your Temporary files location so it creates a default temp when you first install the product. So I genenrally change it to another location prefer a location with large amount of space to build large tmp files which automatically clean up. This clean up occurs when you BI bus process is completed in your case looks like every 10 mins.

My current engagment has our 200 users and works with large excel and pdf exports for this reason we have the temp directory sized to 20 gb. So I would ask you check your user group and file types which might be run and freqency to determine the size of your temp dir.

Thanks,
RK

Hi RKMI,

The default temp directory on content manger tier under enviroment temp location is c:\ program files\cognos\c8\temp right?
