Drill-through feature does not work in IWR

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone else has ever encountered this issue before. I have a drill-through report that works fine in Impromptu but doesn't work when it is published to the web. I have the report set to open up with Adobe Reader 7.0 and when I click on the drill-through link in the report nothing happens. I tested the report on a computer with Adobe Reader 6.0 and it seems that IWR tries to open the report when I click on the drill-through link, but I end up getting an error message that just says "Unable to execute report". I have the drill-through report published to the same newsbox as the report that has the drill-through link and if I run the drill-through report on the web directly, it opens up fine. Any helpful comments or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Any popup blockers? What's the version of Impromptu?

Victor

No pop-up blockers that I'm aware of and the version of Impromptu is version 7.3 MR3.

Is the webserver in your IE trusted zone? Any URL filters on the webserver? In the past, URLScan would block some of the drill-through reports for me.

Victor

Yes, I have the webserver as a trusted site in IE. I don't believe that there are any URL filters on the webserver but I'm not completely sure. Is there a simple way to check for this?

Would you be able to capture the URL for both, direct and drill-through actions?

Victor

Here is the URL for the drill-through action:

http://sotest001/cognos/cgi-bin/imrap.cgiAFDATAIU=IMRAP&CD=GetTemplate&TNAME=iwr_255fdrillthrough_252eutml&DCD=Drill&E=POCommitDetails&DID=417abfa1d73c11dbbf808071d0362b9b&FT=_255b_2522Contract_2522_2520_253d_2520_252224069_2522_252c_2522Account_2522_2520_253d_2520_25220325_252d000_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2520_2522_255d

And here is the URL for running the report directly:

http://sotest001/cognos/cgi-bin/imrap.cgi?IU=IMRAP&CD=DV&nia=View&nid=c90c7599dc9811dbb2d6e6440cd89fa6&nih=1&back=http%3A%2F%2FSOTEST001%2Fcognos%2Fcgi%2dbin%2Fupfcgi%2ecgi%3Fxmlcmd%3D%3CGetPage%3E%3CTemplate%3Emain%2eutml%3C%2FTemplate%3E%3C%2FGetPage%3E%26id%3Db8f485badc9811dbb2d6e6440cd89fa6

I'm guessing that the drill-through URL probably isn't normal in some way.

COGNOiSe administrator

Yup, the drill-through is missing a ? right after imrap.cgi. Might be a bug or misconfiguration. Where it says AFDATA it should say just a ?.

Victor

Ok now if it is in fact a bug, would you say that it is being caused by IWR or would it possibly have something to do with Upfront? I don't really understand how the IWR/Upfront interface works so any clarification on that would be appreciated. By the way, thanks for your help so far.

COGNOiSe administrator

If I recall correctly from my IWR days, the drill through is generated by one if iwr templates. I don't have a copy running right now, so I will have to ask you poke around webcontent and other cognos directories, looking for them. One option would be to use something like fgrep for Windows, or UltraEdit (my all-time favorite text editor), and search all Cognos subdirectories for one of these keywords (imrap, gateway, IU, CD, DV) in *.tmpl files, then in *.*. You will eventually find it. Also, I'd check Fix Lists for IWR versions higher then yours, looking for any related bug fixes.

Last, but not least, consider moving to ReportNet or Cognos 8. Much more fun and it looks pretty, too! Although Cognos Connection is not nearly as customizable as Upfront. But reports design tools in the above open far more possibilities then Impromptu.
