time Granularity

Hello all,

I have time dimension who's garnularity is month . What if user want to see day level. Do this dimension support till day level if so, How?

Easy

  • open the model in transformer
  • Right click on the dimension
  • Choose Insert Level
  • Specify the data source and choose the Week or day as the desired date function from the appropriate tab

Is day the granulatity of the fact table?  The time dimension can only go as detailed as what's available in the fact.  I.e. If the fact table rows only have month as the lowest level of detail for time then that's as far down as you can go.  You will have any levels above month though including Quater and Year.

However if the fact rows have a day (date) as part of the grain then then in the time dimension you can have day, week, month, quarter, and year levels plus any special time categories that can be derived from these standard time slices, e.g. Fortnight.
