I have to build a dashboard. Which is a better approach and in which scenario

1 Build it using Report Studio just like a normal report
2 Use the New page option in Cognos Connection and create a Mulit Tabbed Dashboard

Also, can i create multiple charts in one page in option 2.

hi ds,

what cognos version do you use? If you use cognos bi 10.1 or 10.1.1, i would suggest creating a dashboard
with Business Insight or even consider using Active Reports.

The different approaches have different strengths and weaknesses, choosing the way to go should depend on what you need.

Also depends on the technical abilities of your users...

Careful if you want to used multi-tabbed dashboard, passing parameters to that same portal page does not work, even though the documentation says you can

I am sorry, but i feel your question is kind of to generic...its like asking, "what do you prefer, apple juice or orange juice"?!
First of all, both are juices ;) The techniques behind the reports and the "dashboard" in CC are similar.
Second, depends on what you like and need. Do you use the webportal a lot? Do you like it? Is it already customized and sb put a lot of efford in it? Do you want to drill? In the report or to another reports?
I would suggest, create two simple versions of each alternative (cc and pure report) and test it for yourself.
In case i dont know what to choose, BI or CC dashboard, i firstly get and summarize the business and department requierments...and they try it :)
