PPlay generated errors

Powerplay 7.2

I have a powerplay report that is rather large that we open once a month. This month, it will not open. It either hangs there or gives me a 'pplay generated errors' message... and that MS Dr Watson cannot find log error message. The report opens fine on last week's cube (which I always have as a backup). Also, I have two other backed up copies of this same report from previous months, and they will not open on this new updated cube either.

There have been no structural changes to the cube since last week.

Any idea why this is happening? I attempted to rebuild the cube, and the report still will not open.
The cube itself, and all other reports are on it open fine.

if you are using PPES via upfront, have you tried opening the report in Design mode.
So it will not fetch the data but showing you only the cross-tab. By opening the report in such mode some time it helps checking if all the filters are still on , or if for any reason a category has been dropped.

It opens successfully in design mode, you can try applying the zero suppression for Column or rows only for example.

I found that when we upgraded to 7.3 MR2, reports that had a reference to a measure category that no longer existed in the cube would not open (NB: this problem was from within Upfront only, client was fine). 

The old 7.1 MR3 version that we were running was quite happy to open up reports with references to missing categories ... it seems the new one does not like it at all ... the work around was a script that opens each PPX, saves and closes, which removed the reference to the missing category ... not a pretty option, but still ...

Do you have a ppx of the report, and view in notepad to see if you can see the issue?
