How to build a cube in Cognos 8 using Framework Manger?

IceTea

You should give more information on your task, on your thoughts and about what you already know.

Such a short question without any backgroundinfo sucks hard.  >:(

Well sorry sir actually what happened this question is asked to me in a interview i don't know whether it is possible or not. i know that it is possible to build a cube with the package produce by the framework manager.

My answer would be:

- There is a way to create IQDs of your FM-query subjects. This IQDs can be imported in Transformer to build cube. On my informations this method will be deprecated in new versions of Cognos FM (not in new versions of Transformer).
- Build Cube directly on FM-Packages, both relatonal and DMR objects are possible.
- Last option - and hopefully the very right answer - would be to create a DMR model on relational data, which feels and acts like a cube in the Cognos 8 BI Studios. This is ROLAP, not OLAP.

"I know that it is possible to build a cube with the package produce by the framework manager"

This is incorrect.

A 'cube' (an MDC file if we only consider Cognos OLAP) is built using transformer. A package is a way of presenting that cube to end users for analysis. You can build an 'analysis' from a package. An analysis is totally different to a cube

There's a lot of terminology here that needs to be understood.

The interviewer achieved what he wanted, which is gauge your true knowledge.

Perhaps I should clarify my smartypants comment.

You build a cube from Transfomer.... which in turn can reference a package built in FM.

So I guess your statement is correct after all.
