Reporting / Re: Time filter formula
Last post by cognostechie - 12 Oct 2024 02:23:36 PM
You can use a Date & Time prompt and select the time from the prompt.

The filter would be [DateTime] in_range ?DateTime?

Reporting / Time filter formula
Last post by reportit - 11 Oct 2024 02:07:37 PM
I'm looking for the formula to filter time.  I have a report that I need to pull only data populated after 4pm.  Does anyone know what formula or how to do this?

Have you been able to resolve this issue?  We are seeing similar issues after upgrading our server to Windows 2019.  When running a report interactively that produces a PDF report we see a message that the Connection was Reset.  The reports run successfully to HTML or to EXCEL but not as PDF.  Running in batch works as expected.  This issue only occurs when logged into the VPN.   We are on version 11.2.2.

If you want users to run the report against the data source every time, don't save a static copy of the report.

Hi all,
When running a report, it is possible for a user to do "Save as report view".
In theory, perfect functionality.
Unfortunately, in this case, the report view in the case has for property "View the most recent report" in Properties / Report / More options / Default portal action.
This is a bit of a "disaster", as this behavior is not understandable for my users.
Question: is it possible to change definitely this default property in this case ? In other to have per default "Run the report".
Thanks!

From the Cognos 12 home screen, under the favorites tab, if a user selects the List View Option and the Short Row Size, if they log out, these preferences are not saved. This is only reproducible in a certain namespace, so I'm curious if this is due to a capability or permission that I am not aware of. Does anyone know how to ensure these preferences are saved?

Your choice but I have never experienced any trouble with it. Creating a Data Module is an extra maintenance when the packages are already there.

I have never even noticed that property because there are other ways to manage that.

Delightful.  There are multiple definitions for the same term in a single ecosystem.  Well, as long as we keep the users confused, we'll always be employable.

Quote from: cognostechie on 08 Oct 2024 08:12:08 PMIt is only possible when the package you use uses DQM. You will get a '+' icon on the top right side of the package to add another DQM package.

I must have overlooked it, I'm sorry for the confusion:

There is (!) an option to set a package (data module) as default. Simply right click on the "not yet default" package and select "set default package". It is quite useful, e.g. when you create a new query: it does select the default package as the "source package" for that query. By that you can avoid the hustle of always having to change the "data source" of the query.

Quote from: dougp on 08 Oct 2024 06:03:30 PMI find the term data source confusing.  The term "data source" has a specific meaning in Cognos Analytics.  A data source is created in Cognos Administration on the Configuration | Data Source Connections page.  I don't think that's what you are asking about.

Please be specific and use correct vocabulary.

In the query tab in reporting, the entry in the properties pane where you select your default package is actually labeled "data source". So I guess the term is not exlusively reserved for the artefacts in Cognos Administration > Data Source Connections.
And how am I to address both "old" packages and "new" data modules with one term? To me these are data sources of the specific report. Or is there another common term for them?
