Title: Maximum number of values in a prompt
Post by: maverick_hs on 25 Jan 2006 08:50:46 AM
Hi,

I have a value prompt on a report and the field can take about 8000 distinct values. However reportnet only displays the first 5000 values in the prompt. (I believe this is a default). How can I change this 5000 to a higher value or better still no limit... if at all?

I appreciate any help/suggestions.

You can get more than 5000 items in a Value Prompt if you use a calculated query item.

if you did get a chance you look at the report XML I sent you...you can see that in the prompt there are 5360 items.

i don't have a gosales package with me. I just tried the same what u did in the package i have. I created a calculation Rank as rank(distinct [column]). When i executed the report..the prompt showed me the values that are present in the report page. When i click page down i get the next set of values.

I then created a prompt page and moved the value prompt over there. When executed it showed only 5000 values. The column which i used had 1 million distinct values in it.( I tested that by giving a select distinct in the sql editior).

Could plz let me know where i am going out..

OK...

Select the query and in the properties "Rows per page" make it 6000 or 7000 (How much ever you want)

and run it again.  You are true the prompt takes only the number of values in the page.

fine,,,it works when we have the prompt page on the report page. But if we create a prompt page and move the prompt to that page ,it again displays only 5000 values.

Let me know if i am going out somewhere.

Why don't you make two report pages instead of a prompt page and a report page.
