Hi to all,
1- We have this Cognos Package coming from a cube coming from SAP BW
We are able to have more than 1 HIERARCHY under the same dimension.
2- We have this Cognos Package coming from a cube from TM1
I can't find a way to have more than 1 hierarchy directly under the same dimension.
Please take a look at the print screen in the word document in attachment.
Thanks in advance for any valuble feed-back !
As I understand it, TM1 does not support alternate hierarchies. You just have to create a new dimension.

This is nonsense, TM1 has no limit to the number of alternate hierarchies in a dimension.
Glad to learn something new. So my understanding was incorrect.
OK, I'm smarting a bit from this as usually I am the one paying out on amateurs.
It appears that you can just define standard consolidations which re-use existing elements repeatedly. This in effect is an alternate hierarchy. I don't know how MDX functions would refer to it though as it doesn't look like you can 'name' the hierarchy as such.

Don't worry - I often find there are things I don't know, and I get very embarrassed when this is pointed out! :)
Please do not feel bad about this - everyone has gaps in their knowledge, and we are very grateful for all your contributions to the forum. OLAPBPMguy's post could perhaps have been a little less terse, but I'm prepared to cut him a little slack and assume the intent was not to offend you.
OLAPBPMguy, would you be able to share the technique for defining alternate hierarchies if you get chance? I'm sure it will benefit the original poster, and probably others searching the forum too.
Best regards,
MF.
Well I shouldn't have posted the answer if i wasn't fairly sure about it. Anyway I'm grateful for your understanding and agree that we would like a solution to this for everyones benefit. I have done some research since but I would like to see how it is meant to be done.

If I abided by that philosophy, my post count would be zero! ;D
To get precise:
TM1 has no knowledge of distinct hierarchies. Elements can have multiple children and multiple parents. If you open the subset editor and sort by hierarchy then the content will be rearranged to look like separate hierarchies, but TM1 doesn't see them as distinct. But you get your alternative drilldown paths.
Watch out, also - the first parent of an element ( elpar(dim, elem,1)) isn't necessary the 'main' hierarchy.
Hi to all,
1- I f unserstood correctly there is a way to have in REPORT STUDIO more than 1 Hierarchy under the same DIMENSION ?
2- We followed the step by steps described in the document named "C8 reporting from TM1 data source[1].docx"
+
we had to create a certain "Turbo Integrator" process.
3- Unfortunately the result was not what we expected.
4- We were in deed able to create new levels under the same hierarchy but the levels were not accurate.
Also, we were still not able to have MORE than 1 hierarchy under the same DIMENSION
CONCLUSION: We can't seem to see in Report Studio more than one Hierarchy under one same dimension.
Did someone had any luck with it. Did someone really tried it and was it succesfull ?
Thanks in advance to anyone in this great forum !
p.s I am unable to attach any documentation to this forum subject ??
