Title: Spam control?
Post by: CognosPaul on 21 Apr 2010 01:29:19 AM
Is there any way to implement a flood control that would auto-ban any users (against a white list) that post x times within 3 minutes? The latest spammer managed 17 posts in the span of 7 minutes. I'm sure not even MF could get that many out so quickly.

It's also been some time since I registered, but maybe tighten up the registration procedures. Many sites now have a basic logic question (what is the value of [image] + [image]?), but I suggest forcing the registrant to go through the full Turing test.

I agree fully with your idea Paul.  Over the past two days I have deleted almost forty spam posts from the same poster, and it's beginning to irritate me now! :)  I have sent a PM to one of the Admins asking for the spammer ID to be barred from the site, but I agree it would be helpful if the signup procedure made it more difficult for spammers and spam bots to sign up.

You're absolutely right there too, although often when I reread some of the drivel in my posts on here, I'm amazed I haven't been reported as a spammer!!  ;D

Hey Guys,

I hope all is well now.  I did tighten down security when I took over maintenance of the site last year.  I think we have been able to successful stop many of the bots by doing so.  At this point, we have the tightest security allowed without any customization (a Captcha and a confirmation email).

Best regards,

Dustin

Seems to be pretty good of late - only one incidence of a spammer in the last few week, and that was dealt with quickly.

Thanks Dustin!
