G'day all
I did a search on DICE this morning. It was for a friend who needed a Progress 4GL programmer.
Searching on "progress" returned 3,455 hits.
Searching on "powerhouse" (once the leader in 4GLs) returned only 39 hits!!!
Is this indicative of where PowerHouse ranks in the development world today? Does this demonstrate that PH is a dying product? Does Cognos care?

I see this topic has been viewed over a hundred times but no one has responded. :(
I think it is time to hang up my PowerHouse hat and move on to more primative development tools like Java and VB.Net.
It is just like IBM mainframe JCL. Managers hate it and would like it replaced
but many of the applications can't be turned off. It is time to start pushing
up contract rates for those of us that can do it well. This will hasten the
replacement of PH. So what? My primary application is estimated to cost
$25 million to replace. Likely that estimate is 50% low. So PH will be around
for a little while. Get Java ability or switch out of programming. That's what
I am doing as my 10 year plan.
I get an hourly rate doing BI that's almost twice what I can get doing PH. As Cognos doesn't seem to want to integrate PH with it's BI and Performance Apps offerings I don't seem the point playing with it any more.
