Title: Controller & Cognos 8.4 Reporting
Post by: Dan Stroebel on 11 Feb 2010 02:06:30 AM
Hi,

I am totally unfamiliar with Cognos Controller, but have been approached recently and asked whether it is possible to use Cognos 8.4 tools (especially Report Studio and Analysis Studio) for Reporting on Cognos Controller data.
More specifically, whether the structures defined in Cognos Controller could be used in Cognos 8.4 for Report building.

Thanks for an answer, guys.

- Create an exmpty DB.
- In controller configuration prepare a datamart against the production Controller DB.
- In Controller client ask finance to define and fill the datamart with whatever you need.
- Report on the DB with whatever you feel fit. (starschema)

You would expect there to be a standard Cognos FM model built for Controller  :-\ you know one of IBM's so called Performance Blueprints.

The vision of Controller is ownership by finance. They decide what data leaves Controller, by using the datamart principle (to database or TM1).
Second, the format of the controller database if not suitable to report directly on.

Controller itself has a function to run out to a publish database.

There is a blueprint FM model and transformer model. These are working fine for me although I have had to amend them to include a few more levels to the hierarchies. Also, beware of the fact that Controller can roll specific levels up negatively if set up to do so. Unfortunately transformer only likes to add things up.

More recent versions of controller (9.5 on?) can publish directly to TM1 which is overviouysly snappy and will happily roll up however they have defined.

Hi All,
I am totally new to Cognos Controller Envirnment. I want to know about how to setup(configuration) &  bind cognos controller with typical BI Application (both cognos planning and cognos TM1 cubes). If you have any student guide( tutorials), links for cognos controller, please forward to me.......

Thanks & Regards.

Controller 8.5 comes with a (FAP) process that creates a TM1 cube (TM1 comes free with Controller 8.5 with some limitations). The TM1 cube created is basic although in Europe we have created "Extended FAP" which comes with a number of TM1 scripts that deal with the current limitations of FAP.

Although it's an old thread, hopefully what I write here will be useful to someone.
In general::) Good luck! :)
