We are upgrading from Cognos 8.1 to 8.4
Long story short... we have some reports with packages in them, and we cannot find the Framework the packages are located in (yeah we should have named them the same but that's history now...)
How can I find the Frameworks that the packages are in? Without opening every single Framework and looking?
Thanks!
Cynthia
Hi Cynthia, I am at an early stage with Cognos BI 8.4 and it is very unlikely I can help you, but was hoping to ask for clarification on your question for my own edification. I freely admit you have better things to do than answer me back, so no worries if you focus your time elsewhere ;)
Is the term "Framework" the same as "Project" in this post? I'm still grappling with the vocabulary on this. I was poking around to see if I could find a real world example of what you asked in my own setup and was only able to get as far up the structure as a "namespace" within the project, not to the project itself.
I will be watching this thread to try and learn from your frustration.
Cheers,
Timbrely
Hiya.. :)
Yeah I use Framework interchangeably with Project, I'm not sure what the proper word is either. :p

Hi Cynthia,
One option is to do a search for all your model.xml files (each FM project will have one), then search within each until you find the following syntax:
<package><name locale="en">Your package name here</name>
If you have google desktop (for example) it can search within files like this without you having to open each one in turn.

Framework or Project - the choice is yours. Some folks refer to it as a Framework as it's created and defined in Framework Manager, others refer to is as a Project as it's saved via a .cpf (Cognos Project File).

Great thanks! I had Google Desktop but removed it to see if my laptop would speed up. We don't get the best equipment, being State Government. But I'll get it back and give that a try.. oh, we do use Ultra Edit which has a feature to find in files, maybe that'd even be better.
