Title: Best practice for moving prod data to test?
Post by: ajhughes on 22 Dec 2009 05:07:59 PM
Hi all,

I've got 2 identical contributor applications, prod and test.  I would like to update the test application with data from prod, and I thought the best method would be an admin link.

However, after setting up the admin link and running, I noticed d-list formatted data did not get moved over.  Researching the problem, I found on IBM support that you basically can't do this without creating cubes to translate the d-list formatted data to text first.  This seems like a pain to me.

So I'm wondering, do any of you have a better approach for populating a test contributor application with data from a production contributor application?

There are at least two other options:

a) take a new deployment of your production app and choose the export model and data option and then import it as a new test app. This of course assuming that you havenät made changes in the test app compared to the production app (i.e that the model in CAC is exactly the same for the prod and the test app)

b) Make a full view layout publish (all e.list items all cubes) of your production app and then use a sql editor and insert all the data in the views in the publish container to the corresponding import tables of your test appilcation and then run prepare import and then GTP
