Title: When to start using LB?
Post by: Andy_s on 20 Nov 2009 09:55:48 AM
Hi Everyone,

I'm looking if someone here would be able to help me.

We are about to implement Cognos, however, I'm being asked a question to provide some sort of quantifiable metrics of when to start adding another server and LB them.

Essentially i need to answer the question: What metrics application should meet in terms of transactions, data volume, etc,  to warrant another server addition and loadbalancing. I understand this also will depend on the hardware, but maybe there are some "best practices" that you can referr me to?

Thank you very much,

I have one question for you: Is there any necessity for it?
Is your server having performance issues (100% CPU load / 100% Memory usage)?
And what is the goal of the load balancing? Faster reports or a failover system?

If the server isn't peaking at its maximum and failover is not necessary, then why would you use load balancing?
