Title: Planning v8.4 performance.
Post by: kbach on 11 Sep 2009 03:32:26 PM
I am considering the upgrade to v8.4, and am curious about the performance gain.  I have read/heard that both the server and client software runs 'faster'.

Has anyone upgraded from v8.3 to v8.4 and kept the same hardware configuration to really compare the server performance (GTPs, publishes, admin links)?

How about on the client side, anyone have a performance comparison?

Equipment sizing (response time) has been a challenge for our installation.  We hope that we will not have to increase any equipment during the upgrade.

Any feedback is appreciated.

If performance is an issue then you might want to evaluate TM1 as it runs much faster and with much less hardware (provided i/ your contributors are in the 100s or 1000s and not tens of thousands and ii/ data entry is generally on line rather than offline and iii/ WAN performance is good)

Hi - I would say that the rich web client is slower that the 'old' version, which I expect is due to the client having to start a Java VM.

Server side performance is improved, but not radically.

Thank you for the feedback.  I will review these options.
