Title: Creating ODBC connection to Access Database
Post by: gats1527 on 11 Sep 2009 08:32:12 AM
I am New to the site

We have an access database which has been collecting data for about 2 years now and it has come time that our managers are nto happy with the Access Reports and want us to report them from C8.  I have created the ODBC connection as a System DSN on my machine which points to the directory where the database lives, but when i add that connection to Cognos Connection, it fails everytime.  I was wondering if someone has some information on this.  Thanks

Tom

From my experience the database has to reside on the local COGNOS server.  We have a batch file that copies our Access Database every night from our file server to the COGNOS server. This was the only way we could successfully connect to the database and report off of it.  There may be other ways but this was the only solution for us.

In our experience, the DSN has to be on the server.  We only used it as a source for Data Manager to get the data into SQL so we didn't try to directly report off it but it should be possible.

you should only have to use the server name you used in odbc in the new cognos datasouce, give the odbc connection is successfully. odbc contains all connection details, you just point cognos to it.
