Title: is this possible? YTD filtering (last fy vs. curr fy) when in Analysis Studio?
Post by: mmartins on 09 Sep 2009 08:51:12 AM
so we have a sales datamart with a run-of-the-mill time dimension complete with YTD flags and such.

in query studio, we will put together a report in which sales are shown from last fiscal year and current fiscal year, and we drop in a YTD filter that will filter the report down from:

2008 sales 1/1/2008 - 12/31/2008
2009 sales 1/1/2009 - 9/8/2009

to:

2008 sales 1/1/2008 - 9/8/2008
2009 sales 1/1/2009 - 9/8/2009

the executives want this ability in analysis studio.  i'm not sure it's possible.  i know analysis studio does not support filters, so is there another way?

if there's a better forum for this question, please move.  thanks in advance!

How often is the cube created?

Could you create calculated time dimension?  If its just one cube and created on a monthly basis you might be able to get away with this just to make them happy.

Hi Guys,

seems to me like this is standard Transformer Functionality ... Unless I'm missing some information in your question, I'm pretty sure you can use the YTD Grouped Functionality (this is one of the Special Time Categories (as it's called by IBM - Cognos)) within Transformer. Just look in the Transformer Manuals for Special Time Categories.

Regards

What makes you say Analysis Studio does not support filters?  You could have your users construct filters to do this, or an easier suggestion would be to have this functionality built into the cube as Filip suggests.
