HI all,
to import an EXCEL as data source in Framework Manager need to follow the steps as below....

1)create a data range in the excel sheet.
2)e.g. if u have 4 columns and 1000 rows then select the entire rows and columns along with column heading and go to Insert ---->Name--->Define
3)Give specific name as Table1 to that range.
4)now create an ODBC with this Excel.
5)Now in Cognos Connection create a Data source with this created ODBC.
6)import this created data source connection in Framework Manager and you will get Table1 in FM.

hope it will helps you

regards,
vij  :)

In addition to Vij comment, if you have FM installed on separate machine and Cognos on separate machine then you have to create same odbc in both machine and  point odbc to excel file in both machine's physical drive location.
